Hearing help for theatregoers

We understand how frustrating it can be when trying to appreciate a live performance. Because of this, we have developed our Theatre Hearing Guide – designed to help you get the most out of every show.  Simply search for any venue on our database below to find the facilities they have available for your hearing needs.  Most offer hearing aid induction loops.

Cambridge Theatre

The theatre uses the Sennheiser infra-red headset system, and 10 headsets are available from the front of house staff in main foyer. These headsets are for people who are hard of hearing but please note there is no induction loop system in the auditorium. Only three necklace type hearing systems are available for people who use a hearing aid, so please call in advance to book these. There is an induction loop at the Box Office to assist hearing aid users when booking tickets. For further information regarding hearing systems, please call the theatre stage door on 0207 850 8710.

Coliseum (London) Theatre

For hearing impaired patrons there is a free Sound Enhancement System which works using radio waves, and can be used in conjunction with a hearing-aid or via a headset that can be collected from the Information Desk in the foyer before the performance. One performance of each opera is also sign-language interpreted. Most performances are surtitled. The box office can usually advise as to which performances have them. Subtitles are not visible from the back 4 rows of the Dress Circle or from the back 2 rows of the Upper Circle. They are also not fully visible from the back of some of the Stalls boxes.

Criterion Theatre

A Sennheiser Infrared Hearing system is fitted in the auditorium. Customers can collect headsets from the cloakroom should they require one. You do not need to book in advance, but we advise letting the theatre know when booking (just in case there is high demand on an evening so that extra headsets can be arranged). There is also a Personal Induction Loop at the box office that can be used upon request. BSL interpreted and Captioned performances are scheduled at certain points throughout the year.
